Target Priority That Wins on Points (Not Just Kills)

One of the biggest mistakes in competitive 40K:

Killing the scariest unit.

Instead, ask:

What unit is actually scoring?

Target Priority Framework

Before shooting or charging:

  1. Does this remove enemy OC?
  2. Does this deny primary next turn?
  3. Does this protect my scoring units?
  4. Does this stop a secondary?

If the answer is no to all four, reconsider.

The Scorer First Rule

You don’t need to kill:

  • The biggest threat
  • The most expensive unit
  • The flashiest model

You need to kill:

  • The 5-man unit holding an objective
  • The cheap action unit
  • The model giving OC advantage

Small removals swing games.

When to Kill Big Threats

Kill major threats when:

  • They block your ability to score
  • They threaten your primary holders
  • They will swing the scoreboard next turn

Otherwise, contain them.

Efficiency Beats Emotion

Never target something because:

  • It killed your unit
  • It looks dangerous
  • It feels wrong to ignore

Target what changes the scoreboard.

Final Rule

Scoreboard > Damage Output.

Always.
